Venice Grand Canal Mall, Manila

If you are on a budget but still want to pursue that romantic scene, similar to that  of Venice, Italy, you can bring your date to the Grand Canal Mall.

And the good news for Philippine residents is, there is a local version built by Megaworld in Manila.

The high-end combinatorial residential and commercial area is located at McKinley Hill in Taguig City, Philippines. It is a few minute drive from the Bonifacio Global City (BGC), but requires a private vehicle for convenience.

We visited the mall recently to check if it is ready for shoppers and visitors, and also to find out if the Grand Canal is already operational.

All About the Grand Canal Mall in Manila

Location of the Grand Canal

First of all, the Grand Canal is located at the Venice Plazza. The mall has been there for several years now and is part of the McKinley Development. It is a Mediterranean-inspired commercial and residential area.

According to what we have learned, the McKinley development is spread on 50-hectares of land. More than 30 residential condo units will be built there, more than 5,000 apartments, and 15 super huge office towers and about a hundred restaurant. Not to mention four (4) foreign embassies and three (3) international schools (IS) are already there.

When you arrive, the exterior looks really nice and for once in your life, you will feel that it is not in the Philippines.

As of today, there are limited shops and restaurants that are open. In most of the walls of the mall, you will see this big backdrop where mall-goers take their photos as their souvenir.

Venice Grand Canal Mall Attractions

It is apparent that people go to the Grand Canal mall to experience the Mediterranean feel. The canal that was built for tourist attraction.

There are surrounding restaurants. We spotted one which is open already up the bridge near the entrance. But most of the establishments in the canal grid are still yet to open.

Venice Grand Canal Attraction: The Gondola Ride

The Gondola ride is similar to what you see in Venice, Italy. Couple, group of friends, or family can ride the gondola for more or less twenty (20) minutes.

Venice Grand Canal Gondola Ride FEE is P500/head (USD10). You will tour the man-made river with their crew.

The fee is not cheap up front.  But if you want to mimic a date similar to what is in Venice Italy, then this is very affordable. After your Gondola ride, you can take your date to any of the Italian restaurants in the mall.

The developer had spent a lot of money in the structure in this area. The architectural design is superb. It will make you feel you are in a foreign country.

This will be the best tourist attraction on holidays, specially during December when the temperature is a little bit cold.

Initial Conclusion

We have seen how the malls in the Philippines attract customers. They have put all the convenience inside the mall so that you must go and visit. From cozy restaurants, entertainment centers, coffee shops, even mass are conducted now in malls.

The Venice Grand Canal Mall is something new. And it is interesting to see and visit.

And like we mentioned, the area is a mix of both a commercial and residential area. It will offer a different dimension for shoppers. We don’t know how they will maintain it. How will they educate shoppers not to throw garbage in the river. And we hope it is not something that people will just try out for the first several times and just ignore it in the future.

Going there is another challenge. Currently, there is very limited public transport that goes to the area. Either you take their shuttle service or you bring your own car.
