Portsea is a resort town located across Port Phillip from Melbourne, Victoria.

Here are some of the best things to do in the area:

1.    Artists’ Trail

The Sorrento Portsea Artists’ Trail is a truly beautiful walk with plenty of beautiful scenery. It follows the cliff line between Portsea and Sorrento, and there are plaques at significant sites along the route displaying famous paintings (all painted at the location on which you’re standing). You can also walk past the homes of the rich and wealthy!

2.    Bayplay Adventure Tours

If you’re interested in getting out into the water, then Bayplay is the place you should visit! The company offers a number of activities, including: snorkeling (with sea dragons or seals), kayaking, scuba diving, sailing and stand up paddleboarding. Hire equipment is also available if you already know what you’re doing and would just prefer to explore.

3.    Cape Schanck Lighthouse

Only a short drive away from accommodation in Portsea, you will find this historic lightstation. Tours of the lighthouse and the attached museum are offered daily, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Australia’s maritime history, and the grounds are also open for exploration. Enjoy a picnic or wander along the boardwalk overlooking Pulpit Rock.

4.    Fort Nepean

History buffs staying at accommodation in Portsea are encouraged to pay a visit to the fort, which is found in the Point Nepean National Park. The fort is about 2km from the car park, although a shuttle service is available if you don’t want to walk. Visitors are welcome to explore the fort, which is filled with information boards and audio grabs.

5.    Mercure Portsea Golf Club

Those who enjoy playing a round or two of golf should head to the local course, which consistently ranks in the top 50 in Australia. The club hosts a number of competitions and events each year, some of which are open to non-members, and there is a shop to stock up on gear. The onsite bar and restaurant are great places to unwind at the end of the day.

6.    Peninsula Hot Springs

If you’re interested in a little rest and relaxation, we recommend visiting the hot springs. Here, visitors are able to bathe in the natural spring waters to their hearts content. There is also a variety of other treatments available, including massages and wraps. The onsite café is the perfect place to enjoy a healthy meal or a coffee before you head home.
