Tips for Trekking Ghorepani Poon Hill

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is the shortest and easiest trek in the Himilayas, and is also known as the small Annapurna circuit trek. The trek is very suitable for families with childeren and adventure lovers of all ages can enjoy it.

The trek starts from Nayapul and is followed by Birenthanti, Ullery, Ghorepani, Poon Hill, Tadapani, Ghandruk, and finishes again in Nayapul.

The Ghorepani trek offers some of the most dramatic close-up views of the highest and most beautiful mountains in the world.

The start of the journey passes through rhododendron and the mixed forest, alive with ferns and birds. During the trek you have multiple views of the splendid Himalayas, which includes views of the following mountains:

- Mount Dhaulagiri 8167m
- Annapurna I 8091m
- Fishtail 6998m
- Nilgiri 7041m
- Annapurna south 7219m
- Annapurna II 7939m
- Annapurna III 7555m
- Hiunchuli 6441m
- Tukuche peak 6920m

and many more.

The Ghorepani Poon Hill (3210m) is also known for being one of the best view points in the Annapurna Region. The best part of this trek is getting up for sunrise at Poon Hill and Ghandruk Village.

 

A Typical Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Itinerary:

Day 01

Arrive at Kathmandu airport (1345meters):

On the first day, our representative will pick you from the International airport and transfer you to your hotel. You will be well informed about Kathmandu, get trekking info and meet up with your trekking guide.

Day 02

Full day of sightseeing in the Kathmandu valley:

Visit some of the religious and famous places in Kathmandu such as Durbar Square, Monkey Temple, Pashupati Nath and Baudhanath stupa. The remaining time could be used to go shopping in Thamel to buy the required trekking gear.

Day 03

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (200 kilometers west of Kathmandu)- 6 Hours:

Either drive or fly to Pokhara (that depends on your package.) We will enjoy great views along rivers and the Himalayas during our drive to Pokhara, whereas you will see scenic views if you travel via plane.

Pokhara is said to be the Switzerland of Nepal, and is one of the most visited places by tourists.  It full of nature and cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, Buddhist and Hindu temples, all of which are always paired with views of the mountains.

Day 04

Drive from Pokhara (915 m.) to Nayapul (1050m.) and Trek to Tikhedunga( 1577m)- 4 Hours:

After a breakfast in the morning, drive for around one and half hours to Nayapul. From here we start trekking to Tikhedhunga via Birethanthi. This is the easiest trekking part, and we pass through many small villages and settlements. We can also ascend to the Ullery on this day to make our second day easier.

Day 05

Trek to Ghorepani( 2675m)- 6 Hours:

If we did not ascend to Ulleri on the 4th day, then we start our ascent to Ulleri, followed by Banthanti and ultimately to Ghorepani. During this period we can see wonderful views of Machapuchre i.e. Fish Tail mountain, Hiunchuli (6441m.), and Annapurna (7219m) south on the way.

Day 06

Hike to Poon Hill (3180m.) and trek to Tadapani (2675m.)- 6 hours:

We start hiking to Poon Hill before sunrise, which takes around 30 minutes. From Poon Hill you experience the sunrise view over Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m.), Tukuche Peak (6920m.), Nilgiri (6940m.), Varaha Shikhar (7847m.), Mt. Annapurna I (8091m.), Annapurna South (7219m.), Annapurna III (7855m.), Machhapuchhare (6993m.), Annapurna IV (7525m.), Annapurna II (7937m.), Lamjung Himal (6931m.) and other numerous snowcapped mountains in the morning. Then we descend to Ghorepani and have breakfast and then trek to Tadapani, where we overnight at a guesthouse.

Note: There are two trekking routes, one to Jomsom Muktinath and another to Tadapani.

Day 07

Trek to Ghandruk (1950m.)- 3 Hours:

We descend thoroughly to Ghandruk, passing through the rhododendron forest, oak and other kinds of dense forests. We will hear different kinds of birds chirping on the way. Ghandruk is very traditional and one of the most beautiful villages of Gurungs. From this village we will see panoramic views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna (7455m.), Annapurna III (7755m.) and Fishtail.

Note: The trekking route to the Annapurna Base Camp and Annapurna Sanctuary Trek separate from here (Tadapani). Trekkers interested and having enough time for those, can join any of those trekking routes.

Day 08

Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul (Pokhara) & Drive to Pokhara- 4 Hours:

Our last day of trekking starts with descending to Nayapul through the rice fields and local villages to Syauli bazaar, followed by a walk through a flat part. Then we drive from Nayapul to Pokhara.

Note: The route to Annapurna Foot Hill Trekking or the longer way to Pokhara is separate from Ghandruk.

Day 09

Drive back to Kathamndu( 6 Hours):

We take the tourist bus at 7 AM from the tourist bus park at Pokhara and drive back to Kathamandu. We could also use a flight for this.

Note: If you are interested in other adventurous activities in Nepal such as a Chitwan Jungle Safari, Seti River Rafting, Pokhara Tour, Lumbini, Paragliding, Scenic Everest Mountain Flight and Ultra Flight then you could start those now.

Day 10:

Transfer to International airport for final departure.

We drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport for your final flight departure with best wishes and warm love of our country.
