There’s something about being on the other side of the world and a million miles from home that makes us throw caution to wind and think ‘when will I ever get this chance again?’.
You may picture Bangkok as a bustling city overflowing with street food vendors and all night parties – but it has plenty to offer for adrenaline junkies too!
Check out our top choices below to wet your adrenaline appetite:
Flight of the Gibbon – Jungle Zipline Tour
Just an hour’s drive from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, you’ll find yourself immersed in the wild and luscious nature of Thailand’s 1,500 year old rainforests. With 3km of zipline seamlessly woven into the jungle canopy, the Flight of the Gibbon tour means you can make like the high-flying gibbons and swing through the trees without a care in the world. The tours include pick up and drop off in Bangkok as part of the ticket and even offer double harnesses if you want to share the experience with someone special.
Flow House – Surf Simulator
If you want to practice your surfing skills before you hit the beaches of the south, then make your way to Bangkok’s Flow House. Whether you’re a surfing newbie or you just can’t bear to be separated from the waves for too long, the Flowrider is an excellent wave simulation machine, giving you the chance to really perfect your surf style. Give it a go by yourself or sign up for your very own set of lessons and you’ll be a pro in no time. You might even make it into the Flow League!
Taki Racing School
If you’ve ever wanted to travel at the speed of light, Bangkok’s Taki Racing School will give you the perfect chance to try. After only two days of training, you’ll be let loose behind the wheel of a Formula Renault where you’ll find yourself with your feet on the pedals at speeds of up to 140 miles per hour. You’ll be kitted out in everything you need such as a racing suit, gloves and a helmet – but it’s advisable to book 3 or 4 weeks in advance of when you plan to be there.
Muay Thai Boxing
What better place to try out a bit of Muay Thai boxing than in the very heart of its birthplace? Don’t be put off by thinking it’s a needlessly violent sport; the practice is actually highly spiritual! The match starts with 'Wai Khru' where the two ‘warriors’ thank their teachers, spirits, boxing ring and the sport itself. This is followed by 'Ram Muay', a dance where each warrior demonstrates his skills and style. These rituals are believed to bring good luck, protection, respect and a fair fight to both participants. To try it out for yourself, there are a number of different schools in Bangkok allowing you to learn from the best. Try the Muay Thai Institute in Rangsit or the Elite Fight Club – they’re not for the faint hearted!
Pattaya Bungee Jump
There’s something to be said for the high rate of sky dives and bungee jumps that are decided upon under the influence of blue skies and holiday hedonism. Get in on a slice of the action in Thailand! Just a short drive from Bangkok, Pattaya is well known for its extreme sports and offers an array of different bungee jumping locations. Our favourite is the Jungle Bungee Jump, offering you the chance to take the leap of faith before plummeting into the beautiful rainforests below.
There’s no better time than while on holiday to let go of your inhibitions and dare to try something new. Don't hesitate for a moment longer! You could be daring to live life on the edge, sooner than you think!
