The Southern French Alps: A Multi-Activity Paradise

The Southern French Alps: A Multi-Activity Paradise

With beautiful turquoise lakes to high mountain glaciers within an hour of each other and a Mediterranean influenced, alpine climate, the Southern French Alps has the perfect topography and weather to be a multi-activity paradise.

Explore the beautiful Serre Poncon lake by kayak or stand up paddle. You won't run out of space - there are 28m² of stunning turquoise waters with dramatic mountain backdrop!

For a 'white water' thrill, try hydroseeding or white water rafting on the Ubaye, Severaisse or Durance rivers.

For a real adventure, canyoning is a popular sport. Equipped with a  specialist wetsuit, harness and helmet, slide down natural water toboggans, abseil down waterfalls and jump into inviting deep blue pools. A great way to cool down on a hot summer's day!

For a vertical challenge, there are Via Ferratas to climb, including the biggest and best in the Southern French Alps with Three Giant Tyroleans to whiz you back down! Via Ferratas are 'iron ways' and consist of a series of metal ladders, bars, and holds traversing and climbing cliff faces. They come equipped with a security wire that you clip into to follow the route. You need a head for heights!!

Rock climbing, on a warm cliff with the sun on your back and the scent of lavender, is a privilege of the Southern Alps, where wild lavender grows in abundance.

For cycling enthusiasts, there are all the major Tour de France cycling cols including Alpe D'Huez, Col D'Izoard and Col du Noyer to pitch yourself against the rest of the world on Strava!

For mountaineers the Southern French Alps is home to the most dramatic mountain range in the Alps, the Ecrins headed up by the Barre des Ecrins at 4102m. But also with legendary mountains such as La Meije, Pelvoux, L'Olan.

The warm currents and mountains make for a perfect microclimate for paragliders with the technical St Vincent Les Fort for pros and beginner friendly take offs in Orcieres.

Horses are happy here, and there are rides for all levels exploring the woods, pastures and mountains of the Alps.

These are just a few of the activities available in the Southern French Alps! It really is a multi-activity mecca and the perfect destination for a summer activity holiday!
