Jungle town Leticia, Amazonas, Colombia

The jungle town Leticia, Colombia, is located in the heart of the Amazon rainwood in the triple border region with Brasil (Tabatinga) and Peru (Santa Rosa).

In the 1980ties Leticia was the world drug capital with Mike Tsalik as the most famous barons. Cocain smuggling is still going on, but due to strong military presence on both sides of the border and strict controls, Leticia is today a safe and lovely jungle town.

Jungle tours, for example the kajak tours ¨Los Lagos¨ are starting directly in Leticia, which is also the gateway to three nature reserves (Marasha, Palmari and Parque Amacayacu) and indian communties.

A good overview about backpacker accommodation, jungle tours, indian communities, boat and flight timetable, immigration procudures etc. is given in the Amazon portal www.amazonaslife.com
