Hotel Review: The Phoenix Belize

Hotel Review: The Phoenix Belize

Everyone knows that looking for hotel (or rental) accomodations can be exhausting -- what area will you stay in? What is a good price range? What amenities are important to you?

Trying to find a hotel that meets the needs of 2+ individuals can be an even bigger task! After searching through several hotels and websites for accomodation in South Belize, a friend of one of our members suggested The Phoenix. We are so grateful for her recommendation as it was truly 5 star treatment!

As it was not yet peak season (Beginning of December), rooms were still affordable. We contacted the hotel and let them know that we were celebrating a friend's birthday. They immediately responded the next morning with a detailed email giving a description of the room, hotel features, price breakdown and deposit information. Very nice! We knew what we were getting into before reserving. From there, everything was processed/handled online (the deposit and card authorization). We were all set!

With consistent email communication leading up to the trip, Pam & Wendy helped organize our transportation from BZE to San Pedro where the hotel was located. We chose to catch a flight on a smaller plane from BZE to San Pedro in order to reach our hotel. It was great that Pam & Wendy helped set everything up! We didn't have to worry once we arrived. Our taxi driver once in San Pedro was very friendly!

Once we arrived at the hotel (which was a short 5 min drive), the staff were waiting for us to take care of our luggage. Once inside it was just breath taking! There were drinks waiting for us as well as a cool damp towel to help us cool off! Wendy was there to handle our check-in which went smoothly. Our bags were taken to our rooms as Wendy gave us a tour of the property and a rundown of the daily activities on the property. Wendy walked us up to our room and from there we were all speechless!

The Room

Well we can't actually say a room, because it was more of a condo. It felt like home! Upgraded appliances, a living room, balcony with eating area, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and washer and dryer -- we definitely did not want to leave! As we mentioned before, it was our friends birthday, so Wendy told us there was surprise for her in the refrigerator: a Birthday Cake with a special note! Not only that, there was a Happy Birthday message on her bed from the staff. The time they took to pay attention to detail was just amazing. The cake was the cherry on top to the start of a great vacation.

The master bedroom had a master bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and was right off of the balcony. The second room, had two single beds (enough for 1 person per bed) and it's own bathroom. This bathroom had the stackable washer/dryer which came in handy. The bathrooms had Aveda toiletries which came in handy for washing our hair after our water adventures. The living room was spacious and opened onto the balcony. It must be noted that all suites on the property have an ocean view, so you can't beat that!

Before we arrived for our trip, the staff sent us a list of popular excursions that other tourists recommended. The best part was, they were able to reserve our spots for the excursions and we paid for everything once we checked-out of the resort. Having everything taken care of and planned before arrival alleviated a lot of unwarranted stress.

Each room came with an ipad and a cell phone with minutes that was great for calling loved ones back in the States. We also carried the phone with us on excursions and the staff were able to call and check on us. It was like home away from home.  We also enjoyed the food from the Red Ginger restaurant and the daily happy hour on the rooftop bar. There were some other activities offered that we did not have the chance to enjoy like free painting classes & chocolate tastings.

The Phoenix is conviently located in San Pedro, walking distance to everything! Bars, restaurants, shops etc. It was in the heart of it all. If you want to go to other parts of Belize you will have to do so by water taxi (30 minutes) or by plane. Just make note of the times for the last taxi to properly plan your activities.

We talk about The Phoenix all the time because we loved it so much! The staff felt like long lost cousins and when we left we were already planning on coming back again. If you want luxury and 5 star treatment while in Belize, please put The Phoenix on your radar.
