Short Glimpse of Everest Base Camp Trek

It is a famous trek in Khumbu region of Nepal. The trek starts off from Lukla- a short flight from Kathmandu. In Lukla, you will get to enjoy the adventurous landscapes and tranquil environment.

Commencing from there, you will walk to different Sherpa villages and settlements. You  pass different typical villages like Tengboche, Dingboche, Pangboche. In addition, you will have the chance to visit Tengboche Monastery- hundreds of years old monastery. And dive into the culture and lives of the mountain people.

The trek route passes through alpine forests. Unaffected villages along Dudh Koshi and Bhotekoshi river. Walking through you visit  Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The diverse flora and fauna in the region add joyous experience.

En route you encounter the gateway village to Mount Everest- Namche Bazar. From the village, you get the glorious views of mountain peaks. Permits for EBC:

Along with the wider popularity of the trek route, you need to pay and  have permits to go for this trek. There are two permits you need to arrange for the trek: Trekkers Information Management System  (TIMS) and the other  Sagarmatha National Park entry permits.

●Trekkers Information Management System

TIMS is fundamental for any treks in Nepal including the Everest Base Camp Trek. You can get this permit either from Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) or from Nepal Tourism Board. If you plan to travel alone, then it costs USD 20 per person. For this card, you need to submit two passport size photos.

●Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit

This permit is to enter the National Park area. Since Mount Everest lies inside the national park area, you need this permit to go on the trek in this region. You can get the permit from Tourism Board, Kathmandu or at the Park HQ in Monjo. It costs approximately USD 34 per person.

●Gauri Shankar Conservation Area Project Permit

This trek permit is for those who plan to start the trek from Jiri. You can buy this permit either at Kathmandu or at Shivalaya, Jiri. We recommend you to get the permit in Kathmandu as it costs double in Shivalaya. In Kathmandu, it costs USD 20 while in Jiri it is double ie USD40.

If you are planning to pursue the trek without tour guides, you have to arrange the permits yourself. For this, you need to carry your passports and photos. But if you plan to travel with travel guides and agencies, you need not worry about the permits, they will arrange it for you.

Accommodation in Everest Base Camp Trek

In Everest Region, you have plenty of choices for accommodations. Along with the wide popularity, the place serves with comfortable spaces after your tiring walks. You can choose these spaces according to your preference as they usually range from USD3 to USD 200. In the lower altitudes you will have plenty of choices at cheap prices but in the higher altitudes your choice limits. On this trek, you will recollect a wonderful experience while dining in the world’s highest 5 Star hotel- Everest View Hotel. This hotel lies en route from Namche to Tengboche.

●Lukla

It is the starting point of the Everest Base Camp Trek. There are plenty of hotels at your service but the place could be much crowder in times of bad weather. You can get luxurious rest at the expensive resort of Yeti Mountain Home.

●Phakding

It is a small town about 4 hours walk from Lukla. If you feel the hotels in Lukla too crowded, then you can choose to stay overnight at Pakhding. There are many hotels to acclimatize, so no worries! You will have comfy rest there. Or if you choose to continue to walk to Namche, you will get to rest in different hotels, rest houses en route.

●Namche Bazaar

It is the popular trade center in the entire Everest Region known by many tourists. Many trekkers choose to spend a few days in this town to get an insight of the trade activities. Sherpa lifestyles and traditional Tibetan styled handicrafts. There is plenty of accommodations to stay in the lap of Himalayas.

●Tengboche

The place got its name after the Tengboche monastery (3,867meters). Many people wish to visit this ancient monastery and spend their time in the place. There are 5 hotels in the place, so you may face problem during the peak season, otherwise, you will have a comfortable stay there.

●Dingboche

Dingboche involves the highest resident in the Khumbu region at an altitude of over 4,400 meters. There are plenty of hotels in this region that welcomes tourists all year round with best services. And many choose to stay here for acclimatization reasons.

●Lobuche

It is a gateway to Lobuche peak. Many aiming to climb Lobuche peak choose to stay in this place. There are many hotels in the place. Also, the camping area in the region makes it more popular.

●Gorakshep

It is a final village you cross through to reach the Base Camp. There are four hotels in this area, usually crowded. And because of high altitudes and remote surrounding, they provide simple services.

●Gokyo

If you add Gokyo valley to your trek route, you will have plenty of hotels in this region for your ease. The hotels are common with simple services. After the long walks, what else do you need than a comfy bed!

Since EBC is the world famous trek route, you will get every basic facility en route as the infrastructures vary in this region. If you go on solo treks, you have to look for hotels and arrange the permits. But if you choose to go with travel guides, they will arrange everything for you. You will have no tensions at all.
