If you are travelling South Africa, you are bound to stop by Gansbaai - a 2hr drive east from Cape Town.
This is the epicenter for everything marine-based, including whale watching, shark cage diving, and now - seabird rehabilitation!
Visitors to Gansbaai can stop by the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary on their way to/from their boat-based activities. The center is conveniently located right at the Danger Point turn off on the way to Kleinbaai harbor. Visitors can spend a few hours touring the grounds and learning about the local seabirds by the passionate staff. There is also a very cute curios shop with unique gifts I have not found anywhere else.
The center is run by the registered NPO, the Dyer Island Conservation Trust. The center will host a wide array of injured/oiled seabirds from across the Overberg area.
Don't miss this great stop!
