Expert Travel Tips for Visiting Nepal

When is the best time to visit Nepal?

The best time for Nepal travel depends on your itinerary and desired activities.  Most people visit Nepal for trekking, rafting, or adventure travel.  The best time for trekking is Oct to November and February to March.  June to September is not ideal, as it is monsoon season.

How long should I spend in Nepal?

Since Nepal is an adventure travel destination, you may need a lot of time in the country if you want to do a trek in addition to experiencing the culture and main tourist attractions.  Three weeks or longer is an ideal amount of time.  If you are just going for a trek, you can do the Annapurna Trek, which can take anywhere from 8-10 days.  If you have more time, you can do the Everest trek in about 15 days.  It you are short on time, Helambu Langtang is a great trek that allows you to experience some great aspects of Nepal in about 5 days.  We suggest a 10 day minimum for your Nepal eco tour, while 3 weeks would be an ideal amount of time to experience several aspects of the country.

What kinds of treks are available?

Nepal has some of the world’s best treks, ranging in duration and difficulty.

Full support treks include porters, guides, cooks, and tented camp sites are set up for you each night.  Tea house treks, which are less expensive, have porters and sherpas but they don’t carry as much and at night you sleep in local tea and guest houses.  Many of the small mountain villages rely heavily on tourist trekking to support them, so tea house treks are a great way to support the local economy.

What’s the best way to get around Nepal?

The public bus system is a very inexpensive way to travel around the country if you are backpacking and have an extended amount of time.  If you are willing to spend more money and have less time, flying is the best way to travel around Nepal.
