Cross Country Skiing in Sauerland, Germany

Why travel long distance when the winter has arrived and global warming allows some days of snow.

The Bergisches Land and the Sauerland with the Rothaargebirge offer a perfect cross country skiing experience.

Hunau Track (Sauerland) is one of the top tracks. The track is a long distance track and starts from Ochsenkamp near Fredeburg and you can run up to Altastenberg 29km. But there are always shortcuts and circles so that you can adjust your tour to your own skill.

You reach the place easily from the big cities from the Rhine Valley or in the Ruhr area. We have done that ever so often even in the month March depending on the winter conditions. As the track is all the way between 600 to 730 metres above sea level, you can still have good conditions on the mountain range even if there is no sign of snow in the Rhine Valley or even in the valleys of the Sauerland. It is always worth to check about the snow conditions.

Another good Langlauf skiing resort is the area at Reichshof near Gummersbach (Belmicke).

There the tracks are at about 420 metres sea level. A 15 km track is prepared when there is snow in the area. For beginners and not so experienced people shorter extra circles offer some exercise. The tracks have only little slopes so that they are easy to run and what is especially fantastic are the wonderful long distance views.
