Miami is an easily accessible vacation spot, making it a top choice for U.S. residents who may want to make a quick getaway but also feel like they are no longer in the States.
However, staying in South Beach (SoBe) can be pretty pricey. JetSetting Diva Tiffanie stayed at the Catalina Hotel & Beach Club, in South Beach Miami. Read on for her review & tips.
Review of Catalina Hotel and Beach Club, Miami
I've been to SoBe several times and have always wanted to stay at the Catalina. There is something so cool about the cute red umbrellas that are placed out front-plus it always looked so lively. Now I know why.
Although, I enjoyed my stay at the Catalina, I was not happy about the check-in process. It was my first time staying at a boutique hotel in SoBe so I am not sure if this is standard across the board. I arrived fairly early, so I didn't mind that I had to wait to check in since there was a rooftop deck and pool where I could lounge until my 2 pm check-in. Amazing! I loved the pool area as well as the Bartender and Pool attendant (extremely nice guys!). By 2 pm I was in a long line to check-in. However, my room still was not ready & I was told it would be 30-40 more minutes. Meanwhile people who checked-in after me were getting rooms. It was 3 pm by the time I was able to get in my room. Talk about a long day.
Very cute and chic! There is something about the splash of red that makes everything look vibrant. In the closet there was a mini bar area stocked with snacks, beer, water etc. The bathroom was nice and came with BeeKind toiletries, which was a nice touch. I loved the room but the walls were slightly thin. We could definitely hear the guests next door but it didn't bother us too much, as we weren't in our room often.
I loved the location of the hotel. The beach was literally a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Lincoln Road Mall was about a 10 minute walk. There were other stores (Alvin's, Liquor Store, Walgreens) all within a 5 minute walk. Plus, you are right on Collins, so you are in the middle of the action.
While I didn't need it, the hotel did offer airport shuttles. There is also a pretty good happy hour everyday from 7-8 pm where you can get free drinks. Please take advantage of it. You can also get complimentary beach chairs to use on the beach and as stated before, the rooftop pool area was nice so take advantage of that as well. There are also 2 restaurants that are a part of the 3 building property, Maxines and Fung KU. I ate at Maxines, which had a good crowd. The waiter was nice and suggested a pretty summer drink to go with my meal, which was amazing.
Overall, despite the long and confusing check-in process, I was pleased with my stay at the Catalina. If you are looking to stay in SoBe and want to have a good time without breaking the bank, you should check out the Catalina.
