All the Los Angeles, California locals know that right now, it’s all about Downtown LA or DTLA as we call it.
Downtown has experienced a surge of life within the past decade.
It still has its rocky edges but it is quickly changing its image. From boutiques to nightlife, Laker games and celebrities, Downtown is an incredibly perfect place to base yourself during your time in LA.
With easy access to our public transportation system, getting around the city from here is a breeze.
Architecture and Sights
It’s easy to spend days walking around Downtown just gazing at the beautiful architecture. Now that the city’s undergone a huge renovation project, it’s easier to appreciate the buildings that create the business hub of LA. Some of the most famous buildings include the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Downtown Public Library, and the new Cathedral.
The buildings alone are beautiful to see but DTLA also boast several great sights that locals and tourists both enjoy. Chinatown, Little Tokyo, the Fashion District, Grand Central Market, and La Plazita Olvera are all historical and valuable places to go when visiting the city.
Wherever there’s a new bar, you’ll find people every 2nd Thursday of the month when DTLA has a huge bar crawl disguised behind art. It’s called the Downtown Artwalk and not only will you find arts and crafts, specialty clothing, and boozy streets, you’ll also find hundreds of thirsty Angelenos from all over the city and surrounding areas.
On any given night you can find a bar with something happening. You just have to know where to look. Google the LA Artwalk and you’ll find all our popular bars listed on their website.
If this is your only stop in American soil, you have to check out the great American Past Time - baseball. Even if you’re not into sports, there’s nothing like seeing a city support their sports team. Part of the fun is to eat one of our famous Dodger dogs (hot dogs) and experience the city chanting the tune to “take me out to the ball game”. Local tip: Union Station offers a free shuttle to the stadium from Downtown.
Downtown Los Angeles is also home to the champion basketball team, the Laker's with world famous Kobe Bryant. Our Laker Games are action packed and star studded, sure to make you appreciate why this game holds such popularity in the States. Last time I was there, I saw Muse, Andy Garcia, and David Beckham to name a few big names.
You can catch a sports game any time of the year in LA. Baseball season lasts from April until October and Basketball from October through June.
If you’re visiting LA, step off the tourist trail and visit the local scene to gain a better appreciation for our town!
