Queen Califia's Magical Garden in Escondido, CA, near San Diego, was a sight to behold.
When I walked through the gates toward the Magical Garden, I first noticed walls of black and white tiles juxtaposed with mirrored tiles.
The black, white, and mirror tiled walls formed a maze. I paused in the maze to peer upward. I immediately noticed a giant statue of a thirteen-foot eagle with an eleven-foot Queen Califia, the fictional warrior Queen of California, riding on its back.
Once I passed through the maze, I entered into an enclosed area with ten statues, including eight totems. The statues were adorned with thousands of glass, ceramic, and stone mosaic tiles.
As I wandered around , I was in awe of the detail that went into designing and bringing to life the French artist's, Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002), vision of Queen Califia and her Magical Garden.
