When I'm traveling, my trip should get as awesome as possible. I guess yours as well, right?
How do you achieve this? Usually budgets are limited or the time is! Everyone got a different opinion what “awesome” or “epic” means.
My taste might be different than yours! You might love visiting a museum. But the chances are high, that I will fall asleep or try to pull out without that someone takes notice of that. I've done that already on school trips!
But there is help!
First, this is the strength of social media! If your friends recommend you a specific experience, you know that you can trust this and go for it... or not! :) That again depends on the taste of your friend, but you know your friends' taste and you are able to make the right choice!
That's why I love Twitter, Google+ and Facebook so much! It provides me with soooo much inspiration, especially when it's about traveling!
But there are as well very specific travel habits!
Booking.com is the biggest platform for online bookings of accommodations and they know a lot about travel habits! Their experience says that most travelers (60%) prefer to stay in hotels! 10% like resorts, 9% motels and only 6% B&B!
But when they review their stay afterwards, B&Bs score the highest!
Isn't that crazy?
I wonder why not more people book a B&B in the first place? I love B&Bs myself a lot! But I see myself as well looking for hotels very often! I've stayed in many apartments and love it! It gives you that “homely” feeling!
Choosing the right accommodation plays a very important role by making your trip awesome or just an average experience and hopefully not a shitty one! I've once stayed in a B&B in Portugal and the owner was a hoarder and with that the whole apartment was a mess. That holiday would have been a nightmare, if we wouldn't have done maaaany loooong day tours! ;-)
The accommodation play a VERY important role in making our trip special! Booking.com showed me a list with “Epic Accommodations” and if I would like to give one a try.
That sounds so much easier than it is! Do you have any idea how many special and really good accommodations there are? How do you choose one?
In my case, I've chosen the hotel “Hof Galerie” on Sylt in Germany. You see? I've chosen a hotel! But I've made sure that it's a very nice one with a very personal touch. I aim to get the B&B feeling! ;-)
Choosing this one was a bit simpler, as Booking provides a several example accommodations, like this one for German travelers, UK travelers, US, Australian, Brazilian, Candadian, Italian and French travelers. I hope yours was listed?
Do you like stats and numbers? Then we could check what exactly makes a big difference in an accommodation. It's the little things! Top is: Friendly Staff
I wish every hotelier reads this! A simple and natural smile is the first step!
This is followed by Breakfast, as long you are German! Oh yes... that is so right! I do love a proper breakfast and I miss it a lot when being abroad! For others it's dinner or coffee and tea. I would say: “Same same, but different”
Let's summarize it! Give me a B&B or cozy hotel with a warm atmosphere, a smile and delicious food and I should say:
“This Is an Awesome Trip!”
OK, there is a bit more to it! Even it I've chosen a great place to stay, I won't stay in it all day long. I want to explore the region and want to do stuff! This could be crazy things like skydiving, canoying, hikes, driving through amazing landscapes or just long beach walks!
And that's what I'm looking for... long beach walks!
I'm heading to Sylt, an island in the North of Germany. There are very well known spa towns on the popular island. There are around 850,000 tourists visiting Sylt over the year, but only around 20,000 inhabitants! I'm heading there in the first week of December and Germany is not really known for outstanding weather in December. But that's great! I'll get my big boots, warm jacket and a good book. During the day I'm looking to explore the island and will probably look for to get back to my Epic Accommodation, the hotel Hof Galerie, where I'll sit at the oven at night, drink a glass of wine, while reading a good book... but probably I won't read, but be on Twitter!
My mission will be to see and share my experiences, to figure out if a good accommodation can make my day on a German December day!
