My bag is packed and I even bought some new trekking shoes! I would say:
I'm ready to go and have some serious fun!
Uuuuupps... not that soon! I have to get up at 4 am, catch the KLM City Hopper at 8 am, which brings me to Schiphol, Amsterdam and then I have still a few hours to spend on the flight to South Africa. Usually I choose a night flight, but not this time. So I'll have plenty of time to watch the newest films and to do some work. :)
Part of my work will be to prepare myself to what I'll experience the next few days and I'm inviting you to be part of it. Me, but also other bloggers, will share our experiences on the usual social media channels like Twitter, Instagram, Google+ & Facebook.
Just check for the hashtag: #meetSouthAfrica
We will start with Jo'burg. Some might not find that too interesting, but sorry... it will be very interesting! I've been to Jo'burg last year and it seems to have much more to offer than I thought. So this year I'll find out a bit more.
In December I've spend my holiday in and around Cape Town, just in the week when Mandela was burried. It was quite an experience, which I will never forget and I'm happy that I was there to experience it. I've learned so much more about the past of South Africa! Sure, I knew a bit from recent visits and I can also remember parts of the Apartheid's end. But I was around 13 years old and I was not too much interested in the world's politics and happenings to really understand what was happening there. So I'm catching up now! ;-)
In Jo'burg we will visit Liliesleaf, a place of liberation. It was the headquarters for covert, underground activities and a safe house for many leading figures of the liberation movement. Now it's one of South Africa's foremost award-winning heritage sites. I'm looking forward to see it!
We will as well have an Instawalk through Soweto! Join if you are around:
Date: Saturday 3 May 2014
Time: 9am to 12pm
Location: Vilakazi Street, Soweto
There are as well Instawalks in Cape Town and Durban! Find out more here.
One morning we will have to get VERY early for a... Hot air balloon experience! Yay! I've never done that before and I'm looking forward to get up for that one in the middle of the night! We'll share for sure some pics of that one!
And now it gets exciting... not directly, as we have to get up very early again, to fly to Upington and drive for many hours to get to our next activity:
Wild water rafting and camping in the wild!
We'll explore the Orange river for a full day and do some hiking in the Richtersveld National Park. So I will bring my new boots! :) Hopefully this will get us very exhausted, as we'll have a long drive to beautiful Cape Town the next day, so that I'll catch up with sleep on that drive.
How many times have I been to Cape Town so far? Quite a few and I can't get enough!
It's one of my favorite cities in the world. There are many nice cities around, but only a handful can be listed as THE top cities. Cape Town is for sure one of them! This scenery with the mountains and the two different oceans with the many beaches are just breathtaking! I do #LoveCapeTown and I'm looking forward to get back again!
Sooner or later every trip has to end, and ours will end in Durban!
Just like last year, all the bloggers will meet up there and visit as well Indaba, which is the biggest and most important travel exhibition in Africa. I haven't seen much of the city last year, only the beach, where our hotel was located. That was already awesome and this year I'm looking forward to see a bit more of the city.
But this is only the rough itinerary of our trip! There are two other groups exploring South Africa at the same time and they will all share their own experiences.
