Looking over the area where the Mordor scenes were filmed for the Lord of the Rings movies.
Mount Doom - or Mount Ngauruhoe, as it is known here - is just out of the picture to the right.
The lakes below are known as the Emerald Lakes, and they get their colour from the chemicals leaking into the water due to the volcanic activity. When I walked past, there was actually a warning sign telling hikers not to stop due to the risk of being hit by chunks of lava.
This view is part of the Tongariro Northern Circuit, a 4-day hike around Tongariro National Park on the North Island of New Zealand - easily one of the most gorgeous hikes I have ever done!
