The Spruce Goose is one of the highlights of the Evergreen Air and Space Museum in my hometown of McMinnville Oregon. The plane, made of wood, was designed by Howard Hughes' company Hughes Aviation as a troop transport for the WWII war effort. While the war was over by the time the plane was finished, it was an attempt to design and use materials other than aluminium which was in short supply. The plane is the world's largest flying boat.
The Evergreen Museum is also home to a SR-71 and a Titon Rocket. The Space Museum will soon be home to one of the retired NASA space shuttles.
