Hiking to Gocta Falls, Peru

Hiking to Gocta Falls, Peru

About an hour from the city of Chachapoyas you'll find an impressive waterfall: Gocta Falls. This two-tiered waterfall is considered one of the world's highest waterfalls!

Gocta Falls

You can see this waterfall from a small village called Cocachimba. This village is also the starting point for the hike down to the base of the second and larger tier (551m) of Gocta Falls.

The hike is 10km long (return trip) and will take you anything between 3 and 6 hours to complete. If you're in hiking mood you can also visit both tiers of Gocta Falls which will turn the hike into a good 20km day hike!

The views of the waterfall and the valley are spectacular and if you're lucky you'll also see some cock-of-the-rocks (they are birds!).

Definitely worth visiting!
