The World's First Double Decker Cable Car is in Switzerland.
Located in Stans, a village along the shores of the meandering Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, you can board the very first double decker cable car in the entire world and take it up to Stanserhorn Alp.
It started running in August 2012, previously the ride up was by funicular (an angled cog-wheel train that touches the ground). The ride on the Cabrio, the name of this new cable car, is much more thrilling (and much higher up off the ground!).
The view from the ride up leaves you completely awe-struck!
Once you arrive to the top of Stanserhorn Alp, there is an spectacular glass terraced restaurant for dining or having refreshments since your mouth is already open from looking at the 360° view of the Swiss Alps (even as far as France). You will probably recognize the North Face of the Eiger, the Jungraujoch and the Silberhorn Alps.
If you want to ride on the top level of the Cabrio double decker cable car, it's best to check the weather conditions, or have a look at the webcam for Stanserhorn. The Alp is visible from the center of Lucerne on a clear day.
