Claws of a Galapagos Marine Iguana - The only marine lizard on the planet

These are the only marine lizard currently known on the planet. Like living gargoyles, Galapagos Islands Marine Iguanas look similar to the lava where they like to lounge ... black and jagged.

Although a bit fierce looking, they are actually gentle herbivores, surviving solely on underwater algae and seaweed.

They are widely found on most coastlines on the numerous islands that make up the archipelago.
