Bubblegum Alley: Worth a Chewy Visit

Bubblegum Alley: Worth a Chewy Visit

San Luis Obispo’s Bubblegum Alley is a 15-foot high and 70-foot (long alley lined with chewed gum left by passers-by started sometime in the 1940’s or 50’s.

Through the decades it the city has tried several times to get rid of it citing unsanitary conditions but the gum graffiti managed to survive and still attracts tourists from around the world.

Most visitors come to leave their own ‘mark’ on the walls and stay to read the messages others have created out of gum and wrappers. The alley itself is well kept, does not smell foul and is definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.
