After seeing Milford Sound, we decided to head south, instead of heading northwest to see more glaciers (like most tourists do).
Fox Glacier Township is on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island, part of what is referred to as "Glacier Country". Fox Glacier Township is quieter than the area near the Franz Josef Glacier. It rests in the shadows of Aoraki/Mt Cook.
A three hour drive south of Christchurch is the town of Oamaru. It's a great jumping off point and place to stay overnight to explore the nearby Moeraki Boulders.
This is from the country New Zealand. The Southern Alps is a mountain range extending along much of the length of New Zealand's South Island, reaching its greatest elevations near the island's western side. The mountains are cut through with glacial valleys and lakes.
