Once a small town, Munich soon expanded and gained significance as a full-fledged city.
The town was enclosed within a wall, today one can just see the vestiges of the wall but the gates still remain. Meandering River Isar can be seen passing through the city.
When the weather is clear, one can see the majestic Alps.
