Top 8 Reasons Why You Should Celebrate a Stag Weekend in Amsterdam

Now you’re probably thinking I’m going to tell you that you can do all sorts of things in the ‘Dam that you can’t do anywhere else without being arrested – and you would be right.

So sit back, relax and enjoy:

1: Because most of the fun stuff you can’t do at home without ending up in prison is legal. Mind you, it is now illegal to smoke tobacco indoors in Amsterdam so watch what you consume in the coffee shops, unless you want to spend the whole weekend sitting in a comfy sofa wondering what your name is.

2: If you want to see naked ladies, then Amsterdam is the place to do it. You don’t even have to go to a strip bar. Just walk around the red light district and experience first hand the extremely disconcerting feeling of looking at them in fish tanks instead. Or look at the billboards – you are as likely to see a young woman in the buff advertising coffee as you are to see a strip show!

3: The beer is amazing. Amsterdam is the nominal home of Grolsch, one of the world’s only vegan beers and a superb sup at any time of day or night. Get any Amsterdammer to tell you the story of how the beer came into existence: it’s romantic enough (this is quite true) to make you remember why you fell in love with your wife to be.

4: The food is awesome. Cafes serve Dutch pancakes day and night and there is nothing on earth better than Dutch fries (they do them in pigtail curls with lashings of mayonnaise) to soak up large quantities of European lager.

5: The party scene is second only to what used to be East Germany. If you are a child of the night and like nothing more than reaching for the lasers until midmorning tomorrow, Amsterdam is where it’s at. You won’t find any superclubs here mind – just hardcore techno trance parties in the basements of hot sweaty bars. Amazing. You’re as likely to end up throwing shapes with a businessman still in his suit as you are with a glow stick wielding house-head. A truly cosmopolitan night (and early morning) out.

6: If you have the head for it after all your debauchery, the ‘Dam is actually a rather pretty place to explore. Canals everywhere, those wonderful tall Dutch townhouses and of course the Palace in the centre of the city. Come in winter and you can go ice skating on a rink specially laid right outside it.

7: The city centre is so small you can walk all over it without getting lost, or wasting too much time between bars. There’s no long walk to sober you up here! Avoid the nexus of the centre if you can though – unless you like drunk students and McDonalds.

8: There are more quirky pubs and bars here per square mile than anywhere else in the world. Or that’s what it feels like at least. Fancy live jazz, head twisting techno and fake British ale all in the same place? You got it.

Amsterdam is the European capital of taking it easy and staying up all night. For fun, frolics and good people you can’t go wrong here.
