Each December Pattaya, Thailand hosts an International Hot Air Balloon Festival. Over the course of this week-end event, balloonists from around the world converge in Pattaya and inflate their colorful balloons skyward.

If the weather is right, and if you arrive early enough you can fly in one of the balloons. Otherwise, just watching the inflation process is magic. Perfect for the photographer in you.

The event is located at Thammasat University, just 30 minutes from downtown Pattaya. Traffic is busy leaving, so plan on spending the afternoon. There's lots to do including music, games, motorbike racing and shopping.

The event is free to attend, but balloon rides do cost you.
