Mosel - Calmont Klettersteig - narrow pathes and steep dropping slopes

A two and a half hours walk, no fear of narrow pathes, no fear of height and steep dropping slopes???!!!

Then you should not miss the walk along the Calmont Klettersteig. The path leads you through the steepest wine slope in Europe.

The walk is between Bremm and Ediger Eller. We have always done the walk setting off from Bremm. But both places (Bremm and Ediger) offer good places to get a meal, snacks or drinks at the end of the walk. A glass of wine from the slope seems to be a must.

It is half way up and it does not really go steep uphill but there are several climbs along rocks (with climbing aids like ropes and ladders) many little places to rest and enjoy the view down onto the river and the valley. The path is all the way narrow and it is wise to wear good walking boots (especially when it is wet) or good trekking sandals.

It becomes very hot in the summer. Then it is good to have some drinking water with you.

If you want to get back to your place where you departed you can catch a bus or just walk back along the river. Better, though more tiring, is to walk back on the Mosel Höhenweg. You must do a long steep climb to get to the top of the mountain ridge. But it leads you all the time through the forest so that it is not as hot as on the "Klettersteig" and more protected if it is raining. All along the way you get always good views on the Mosel Valley.

The highest point is 378 metres high (the path starts at 86 metres) So you have to climb almost 300 metres up and down again.

But it is worth while. This walk took us almost 3 hours.
