The massive Batu Caves in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The massive Batu Caves located 13km from the centre of Kula Lumpur, Malaysia are a sight to behold. The 42.7m high gold statue of Lord Murugan takes your breath away as does the 272 steps it takes to climb to the entrance of the massive 100m high Cathedral Cave.
The Batu Caves are an important site for the Hindu religion. The caves draw many pilgrims as well as a some overly friendly macaque monkey’s. The caves have a series of incredibly beautiful, intricate Hindu temples where you will see Hindu worshippers in their deepest spiritual moments. Each year in January/February up to one million pilgrims converge on the caves for 3 days over the full moon to celebrate the Hindu Thaipusam festival.
Getting There:
The best way to get to the caves is to take the LRT on the Putra line to Terminal Putra where you can catch a taxi to the caves at very little cost.
Insider Travel Tip: Do not pay over RM 15.00 for a taxi and always catch a taxi on the road outside of the Batu Caves complex. The taxi drivers in the complex carpark are notorious for ripping off tourists.
