Lamai, Ko Samui: Utopia Beach Bungalow Resort
A small and affordable place with a big heart. Various types of bungalows are available (see their web site), none of them father than 500m away from the Lamai beach, a beautiful place for sun-bathing and swimming, away from the hustle and bustle of Chaweng. And, given the location, cheap.
Up and down the beach are a number of restaurants and bars. It's proven, and several times even during low season, that you can get a cool beer on the beach at 2am... ;)
Utopia itself is situated on a fairly narrow patch of land, just two rows of bungalows with a path in the middle. But the restaurant is big, offers great vistas on the beach, and delivers fantastic local food (stay away from the 'western' stuff, eat local!). In fact: It was so great that after two attempts elsewhere we always came back and ate at home. The unbelievably friendly service certainly adds to it.
All kinds of massages are also available near the beach at typical local prices, neither cheaper nor more expensive than elsewhere, but in a better designed location than some similar priced options around.
The bungalows have what you need. Also Aircon. Most of them are well decorated with lots of wood and deck chairs on a veranda, giving it a cozy note. Not more, not less. Don't expect luxury, but you spend your days on the beach anyway.
An ATM and a travel agency are located right next to the resort's office on the village street, helping you with all you can possibly want, inclusive (but not limited to) laundry, rental cars, island trips, airport taxi (but no pickup unfortunately...you need to get there on your own), money...etc.
