It’s so important to find quality time to spend with your girlfriends and London has to be one of the ultimate destinations to choose for a top girly weekend break.
Whether you want to embrace the traditional pampering and cocktails combination or you fancy something a little bit more adventurous, there are so many things to do in London which cater for all kinds of tastes. We’ve put together just a few suggestions of things you could get up to on your next girly break in the city, from the fluffy to the fearless.
It’s a pretty popular choice for people heading to London to book a theater show but there is a very good reason for that; the quality of productions available to see in London’s West End theater district are some of the best in the world. You can choose a show which will have you sobbing, one which will make you think or one which will have you laughing out loud; the choices are endless. Make the visit more of an experience by booking a pre or post theater dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants dotted around Leicester Square and Soho, just a short distance from all the major theaters in the West End. If you are traveling to London with the specific purpose of visiting a West End show then we would recommend booking tickets in advance to avoid disappointment, otherwise you can buy discounted tickets from the TKTS Booth which is located in Leicester Square for same day shows.
A nice spot of afternoon tea is a real must for any girly weekend where you want to relax and treat yourself. There are lots of boutique and 5 star hotels who offer afternoon tea, perhaps with a glass of bubbly as well which can be the perfect choice for a girly weekend. It could be the last thing you do before you all head back home and back to reality or you might choose to kick your weekend off in style by booking one of the twee themed afternoon teas instead. The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed afternoon tea at The Lobby Bar is a brilliant option; think lots of fantastic chocolate creations, candy floss and chocolate flavored milk to boot.
Put an adrenaline boost into your girly weekend and have a go at climbing the exterior of the O2. Not only will you be rewarded with a great sense of achievement once you have clambered up the fabric walkway (which has a slight bounce thanks to the material and the exterior of the O2 itself) to the pinnacle which stands 52 meters above ground level but you will also be rewarded with the chance to stand on the observation deck and look out across the city of London. This 90 minute experience will certainly get your blood pumping and there are a number of different ‘expeditions’ to choose from; the standard expedition, the sunset expedition and the twilight expedition. Once you have completed the climb you could head to one of the many popular restaurants which are located around the O2 arena and enjoy some celebratory cocktails and fine dining to complement your adrenaline fuelled high.
London is the perfect location for a girly weekend which is centered around shopping; there are literally hundreds of high street brands, boutique stores and independent shops just waiting to be explored. If you don’t want to do battle with the crowds on Oxford Street then you might want to try something a little bit different and perhaps head to one of London’s markets instead; Spitalfields and Portobello Road are both great for fashion, jewellery and other trinkets.
Pampering at a Spa
There truly is no better way to relax and unwind than with a spot of pampering and if you can combine that with a good gossip with your girlfriends then you are pretty much onto a winning formula. London has lots of fantastic spas and beauty salons to choose from; you might want to make the whole weekend about pampering. Even just booking an appointment at a top London hair salon and getting your hair blown out and styled can add that extra special element into your weekend break.
Celebrate at a Rooftop Bar
Clink glasses and celebrate your special weekend together by enjoying some cocktails at London’s best rooftop bars. Not only will you have the most amazing twinkly backdrop once the sun has set but London’s rooftop bars serve a whole host of wonderful cocktail creations which will surely put the zing into your evening. We recommend Queen of Hoxton, Coq D’Argent and Vista in Trafalgar Square; all would make great places to hole up for the night or at least excellent starting points for an evening enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of London after dark.
Hire a Boat and Cruise Along the Serpentine
If you want to take things down a notch, either because you’ve spent the evening before knocking back cocktails or simply because you like the slower pace of life then why not hire a boat and cruise along the Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park? Choose from a pedalo or a traditional rowboat and set sail along this windy stretch of water which will allow you to soak up the sights of one of London’s most beloved Royal Parks. Once you’ve returned the boat, take some time to wander around the park itself and enjoy the formal avenues of planted trees, the sculptures and the wide range of wildlife which are all located here.
