Apartment with a view in Positano, Italy

I found the Summer in Italy website provides a great range of apartment rentals on the Amalfi Coast.

I was looking to book a one bedroom apartment in Positano for a week and I was spoilt for choice.  But as soon as I saw Casa Clementina I knew it was the one.  It wasn't new and didn't have mod cons but it had a terrace with stunning views and a colourful tiled floor.  It looked a little old-fashioned, a little quirky and well, Italian. 

When I arrived the owner, Mrs Clementina, spoke fluent English much to my relief and was about fifty years younger than I expected.  There was a great selection of pamphlets in the dresser in the lounge, and I was proudly handed her hand-drawn map of Positano.  We chatted briefly then she left me alone and I settled into Italian life with ease, visiting the mini-mart down the road, venturing up and down the steps to the beach and the piazza.  Some days I caught the bus to Amalfi or Sorrento, the stop was just 5 minutes walk down the road, and if I went to the piazza and felt tired from all the stairs I caught the local bus back up the road. 
 

Casa Clementina was quirky but I soon got used to the way things worked.  Like waiting ten minutes for the small water heater in the kitchen to heat up and the washing machine that tended to stop mid-cycle and sit there for ages before deciding to keep washing.  But like any home it's the quirks that make it special. 

Waking up every morning to Positano spread out all around me was quite something.  The apartment was set high enough into the hillside to command 180 degree views yet it was close enough to the town to make getting around and sightseeing easy.  
 

Renting an apartment like Casa Clementina is definitely the way to go if you want more of an 'Italian' experience.
