Travel Talk on Twitter is a social media travel event on Twitter.

Look out for the hashtag #TTOT

#TTOT Basics:

* There are 2 #TTOT sessions. Like that, all the travel tweeters in every time zone can join the fun! (And the fun doesn't end just because #TTOT does. Feel free to keep responding throughout the day.)

* The hosts will send out 5 questions. Every 10 minutes there will be a new question.

* Follow the hash tag: #TTOT

* Join the fun! All you have to do, is to join, tweet, share and learn about the topic.

#TTOT's promises to you:

1) We pledge to be as open as possible.

2) We promise to take all criticism and ideas with the utmost seriousness and respect. We take our position as event organizers seriously and promise to do our best not to violate that trust.

3) We won't use your tweets for any outside publication without your knowledge and consent. Don't be surprised if you end up in a #TTOT recap. If you are surprised, we hope it's in a happy way. Please don't assume that #TTOT runs the recaps, though. #TTOT is not a trademark, company or a specific person. It's a travel event run by the community. Hosts help to spread the word and to organize it. If someone decides to do a recap, we hope and support that he is going to ask for permission to do so! If you aren't happy with what they're doing, it's probably best to contact them directly.

But sometimes it's nice to read a good tweet, which you have missed before.

Still looking for powder in Chamonix, so missed this morning's #TTOT session. I note that your FB page alludes to Third Parties making Recaps. Lets get this Social Media even...

as ethical as possible. Republishing content on Twitter without getting permission first (not just photos) is questionable. Tweets belong to their authors. They do not come with a Creative Commons licence, but even if they did it is courtesy to ask permission beforehand.
Why not a statement on the FB page to say that anyone wishing to make a recap should get permission to republish third party Tweets outside Twitter? The fact that there are bloggers getting traffic by using tweets outside Twitter, without permission is no reason to condone it on #TOTT.
If anyone wants to do a recap then they should seek permissions before publishing. Most recaps are cut and paste jobs. They add only a tiny fraction of their own content to the post. If they want to do a recap then do some work and get permission to use the tweets. IMHO the fun is in the live event. Recaps don't convey the fun. It's a bit like a TV Quiz show. Would you really want to read that the contestant reached the 1 million euro question. "Who founded Travedudes?" They answered, " Melvin". It is a lot more dramatic live and even better if you are taking part.

Thank you Melvin, I am glad you are not condoning a free for all with Tweets.
The e-book incident highlighted a lot of issues with sites using third party content without...

permission. Just search for #FrFotos on the web and you will find that it is not just Twitpic, Yfrog etc that comes up. Other sites are displaying these photos as well. Do they give proper attribution? Have a look and see.

John, your idea of giving permission is good, but how do you want to organize that?

not going to do a recap. #TTOT is run by the community and someone else might have fun to do a recap. If there will be one in future? Who knows... but I'm sure that it won't get sold in an ebook without informing the users! ;-) We would definitely ask the user/tweeter for permission to use their tweet!

#TTOT should stand for fun and not earning money. The hosts are just helping to spread the word and help organizing it all. The community decides where we will go with it.

If others are going to have recaps, that's fine. But I agree, each tweet is the property of its tweeter! If someone is going to do a recap, I hope & support that he is going to ask for permission to do so!

Good to see another travel chat. I like you improvements but can I suggest that only Tweeps who subscribe to be added to recaps are added. In most cases they will only need to...

give permission once. They can be remove their permission at any time but on the understanding that they will still be included in old recaps.
If someone is gaining traffic by compiling third party Tweets they should have permission first whether or not they are making money directly. It is wrong for parties to benefit from the traffic generated by recaps unless they have opt ins from the Tweeps involved.
