Morning Magic in Myanmar: The Beauty of Bagan Temples at Dawn

Dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries, the ancient religious centre of Bagan features countless brick and gilded temples that dot the skyline in many shapes and forms.

Bagan stands out not only for the sheer number of religious edifices but also for the magnificent architecture of the buildings, and their contribution to Burmese temple design. The Bagan temple falls into one of two broad categories: the stupa-style solid temple and the gu-style hollow temple. The Bagan Archaeological Zone is a main draw for the country's nascent tourism industry. It is seen by many as equal in attraction to Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
