There’s certainly no better way to TASTE Ljubljana than to join in on a culinary tour of the city. There are more than enough Slovenian dishes to explore over the course of a day, but these tours focus specifically on showcasing the local Ljubljana dishes.

While our first cycling tour around Ljubljana could have been a TASTE of Ljubljana tour in itself, the walking culinary tour of the city was absolutely mind blowing (or better yet, taste blowing).

On our tour we visited a bunch of different restaurants including Druga Violina, Klobasarna and the Skyscraper.

The tour itself was super informative (and delicious) and taught us all about many of the dishes still prepared today and some which have been adapted into modern recipes.

Here are just a few of the delicious local dishes we tried:

  • Marinated beef tongue with horseradish

  • Potica Rolls

  • Pumpkin Seed Oil

  • Local Honey

  • Traditional Mashed Potatoes

  • Fried Chicken

  • Carniolian Sausage

  • Honey and Walnut Liqueur

While it was difficult to pick a favorite, I definitely fell in love with their savory dishes. One of my favorites was the fried onion mashed potatoes that we tried at a restaurant called Druga Violina which is a traditional Slovenian restaurant hiring people with special needs and raising money to support local events.

It was also very neat to explore the Ribarnica Fish Market along the way and sample some local breads from the market.
