Before going to Libya, I'd (quite ashamedly) never heard of a Qasr; turns out they're littered across the country.   While many have fallen in to disrepair, this one and its contemporary at Nalut have been lovingly looked after and are well worth a visit.
The area is known for its rock art and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 because of the importance of these paintings and carvings.
